Is Carlinkit 4.0 the Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto Dongle You’ve Been Waiting For?

Why Wireless CarPlay?

I found it a bit annoyed to have to connect my phone to the infotainment with a cable every time. The cable is too long and a bit messy to use, and there are a number of times I forgot my phone completely in the car and has to go down all the way from my office to the car park to fetch it. During the winter upon us also come layers of jackets with the phone zipped in a pocket somewhere, plus gloves. Has anyone had the same experience? The convenience of wireless connectivity is really enticing. I wish there is a wireless carplay function instead of wired one, so I don't need to plug the phone into the infotainment system every again. Compared with other wireless carplay dongles, I finally chose the most cost-effective carlinkit 4.0.

What is the difference between Carlinkit 3.0 and Carlinkit 4.0?

From what I know before using it, calinkit 4.0 is an upgraded version of 3.0, which adds a wireless Android auto function on the basis of the original. So basically it’s a rebadged version of the 3.0 with some stability and performance optimizations. In addition, the Bluetooth version of carlinkit 4.0 has also been optimized. The Bluetooth version of carlinkit 3.0 is 4.1, and the Bluetooth version of carlinkit 4.0 is 5.2.

They are late in releasing it because of the optimizations they were adding to theirs for stability.

How is Carlinkit 4.0?

Carlinkit 4.0, a very simple device capable of equipping your car with a connection to Apple Carplay or Android Auto Wirelessly. It looks like a small parallelepiped in blue carbon fiber shell. It is slim, compact, measuring 80x46x13mm, very light but well finished. There are two interfaces at the upper and lower ends, the upper one is the Type C port, and the lower one is the USB port, while on the lower surface there is a LED indicator.

The interesting aspect, however, is certainly not the aesthetics but its operation: plug and play, it must be connected to the USB port of your car (in the package you will find two cables, a type C-C and a type A-C cable). It is completely automatic after the initial setup process. It’s essentially a small dongle that plugs into your car’s USB port, then pairs with your phone via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, serving as the CarPlay data connection for your in-car system. Carlinkit has regular updates. So we can free and easy firmware updates to make sure the dongle is never out-of-date.

That's all, the real strength of carlinkit 4.0 is that it can be configured in a few seconds, and then you can forget about it.

Using Carlinkit 5.0 in a car

Carlinkit 4.0 is compatible with both iPhone and Android smartphones. Getting rid of the trouble of cable, is the easiest way to bring wireless CarPlay & Android auto to your vehicle. Fit for 2016 and up years vehicle, would be used on 98% of the head unit with original wired Carplay. Even some aftermarket head units are supported by popular manufacturers like Alpine, Kenwood, and Pioneer. No matter what you drive, if it was built within the past few years and equipped with a wired Apple CarPlay connection, chances are good that the carlinkit 4.0 supports it.

How does Carlinkit 4.0 handle multiple users?

It is possible to connect multiple phones to the carlinkit 4.0. A handy feature is that you don't have to connect all the way through your iPhone settings every time. That would negate the convenience of wireless CarPlay. But what if, for example, you get into the car with your partner and your iPhones both have a connection with carlinkit 4.0? In that case, the adapter always chooses the last connected iPhone. The last person connected takes priority.
